Samara Cream 4" x 12" Motawi Tile

Samara Cream 4" x 12" Motawi Tile

Wright’s John and Catherine Christian House, also known as Samara (named after a pinecone’s winged seeds), was completed in West Lafayette, Indiana, toward the end of his illustrious career. The samara seed pattern appears on Wright’s perforated board design for the house, and perhaps most prominently on a rug commissioned by Professor Christian in the 1990s and designed by Taliesin’s Aris Georges and Cornelia Brierly. That rug was the inspiration for Motawi Tileworks’ 4x12 Samara art tile, which reinterprets Wright’s pattern once again in ceramic.

Motawi tiles are striking art pieces and installation accents. Each tile is made by hand and with heart in Ann Arbor, Michigan. Embracing variation and handmade beauty, Motawi's time-honored methods produce a nuanced range of color with depth and translucence.
